Former Indian pacer, Zaheer Khan is currently in negotiations with Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)to become their mentor for the IPL 2025 season.

The Super Giants have been without a mentor since Gautam Gambhir left for Kolkata in 2023, and now Morne Morkel who was the bowling coach for the franchise, has also departed and taken up the same role in the Indian team.

Sources within the IPL suggest that Zaheer is being considered for the role that Gambhir held and could also provide his expertise to the Lucknow Super Giants’ bowling attack.

Zaheer was previously viewed as a potential replacement for former bowling coach Paras Mhambrey under Gambhir’s new setup in Team India. However, the BCCI opted to go forward with Morkel who was highly regarded by Gambhir.

Zaheer does have coaching experience in the IPL as he has previously also worked with Mumbai Indians.Â
