Brendan Taylor-led Zimbabwe cricket team is set to leave for Sri Lanka on Monday to participate in the upcoming 2012 ICC World T20.

Currently Zimbabwe are placed at number eight in ICC T20 Rankings, two spots ahead of Australia.

In the 2009 edition of the tournament, the African side were responsible for ousting Australia from the tournament.

The team plays warm-up matches against Ireland and Bangladesh on Thursday and Saturday respectively, beforetaking on hosts Sri Lanka in the tournament opener on September 18 at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium in Hambantota, according to Zimbabwe Standard.

Three days later, Zimbabwe will complete its Group C fixtures against South Africa at the same venue.

This would be Zimbabwe s third appearance at the T20 World Cup, having participated in the inaugural edition in South Africa in 2007 and two years ago in the West Indies.

Having failed to go past the group stages in the previous editions of the tournament, Zimbabwe will hope for a better showing in Sri Lanka in this tournament.
