A series that had been levelled 1-1 after the first two One-Day Internationals (ODI), Afghanistan and Zimbabwe faced each other for a vital third ODI that acted as the decider for the dominant team. Afghanistan got a good start from opener Mohammad Shehzad. Different to the general slow start, Shahzad quickly scored 30 runs off the 30 balls he faced and left the crease for other opener Noor Ali Zadran who spent time and built up the innings. Mohammad Nabi scored a 42 runs while the team lost three quick wickets in N Zadran (56 runs off 108), Nawroz Mangal (0) and captain Asghar Stanikzai(0). After 50 overs, the Afghanistan team put up a defendable 223-9  of play. Chasing a target of 224, both the Zimbabwe openers started off quite well keeping in mind that they were not there to give away their wickets easily, but Chamu Chibhabha got dismissed in a bizarre way as he handled the ball. Other opener Richmond Mutumbami emerged as the highest run-scorer for his side (74 off 92 balls). Another mentionable innings was played by skipper Elton Chigumbura(49 off 62). While Sean Williams and Tendai Chisoro were the leading wicket takers for Zimbabwe taking two wickets each, Amir Hamza was the only successful bowler for Afghanistan.
