Toss report: Zimbabwe have won the toss and will bat first. Imran Tahir is not playing for South Africa. Dane Piedt is making his debut. For Zimbawe off spinner John Nyumbu and right arm pacer Donald Tiripano are making their debut.

That’s the end of a day. A day, Zimbabwe would not be unhappy with. They’ve scored close to 250 runs, with a wicket in hand, after some gritty and determined batting from Tiripano and Nyumbu. Nyumbu played 67 balls for his 9. But day belongs to Debutatnt Piet who took four for 90 in his 24 overs on day one  For Zimbabwe Taylor made sure they went past 200 with a fighting 93.

 

 

Out!! Fourth wicket for Dale Styen. It was an outswinger around middle, Chatara defended and played for the angle and the ball swung a long way to go over the stumps to go to the keeper. Replays suggest it probably took the right thigh pad on the way. Unfortunate for Zimbabwe.

Taylor holes out!! Brendan Taylor misses out of his fifth Test hundred. That really unfortunate. He deserved this hundred against the number one Test side of the world. He came down the track for the length ball on off, and slogged it to the deep-midwicket boundary where Duminy didn’t have to move much for that catch. Fourth wicket of the innings for debutant Piedt. What a game he is having!! On Taylor’s part one can say too early to play this shot. Graet knock nevertheless.

Zimbabwe lost another wicket. Panyangara gone for 12 of 14 balls. Philander took his first wicket of the day. Beautiful away-going delivery from length outside off, Panyangara drove and a thick outside edge went behind and de Kock took a very good catch with both hands to his right.

Mutumbami is gone. Steyn has got him. This is unfortunate for Zimbabwe’s point of view. He shared an important partnership of 59 with his captain Taylor. Now the Tail is exposed. Now it will be interesting to see Taylor’s approach.

Post Tea Session is started by Piedt. It will be an important session for both the teams. Zimbabwe want to finish the day without losing may wickets, on the other hand South Africa will be looking to wrap up the Zimbabwean innings as quickly as possible. Three runs have come form the first over after Tea. Taylor will be the key for Zimbabwe.

 

Tea at Harare. Taylor steered Zimbabwe forward after they lost three wickets in quickly. With Mutumbami, Taylor have already put together 45.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Good partnership developing between Captain Taylor and wicketkeeper Mutumbami. They rescued Zimbabwe from 120 for five to 163 for five in 54 overs. For South Africa spinners are bowling. Apart from Piedt, JP Duminy also bowled five overs.

 

 

 

 

Well played fifty for Brendan Taylor. Captain’s knock for him. He is fighting a lone battle for Zimbabwe. The lower order needs to support him to take the hosts to a respectable total in the first innings.

 

 

 

 

Another one gone. Williams, who was playing aggressively just threw his wicket away. Dale Steyn bowled a length ball outside off, Williams tried to drive the ball but got an outside edge of bat and rest work was done by keeper Quinton de Kock. Zimbabwe is rattled in the post lunch session. Lost three quick wickets.

Ohh No!! Another wicket have fallen for Zimbabwe. One more for Piedt. Chakabva failed to open his account. Bad shot selection in the context of the game. He flicked it straight to Amla at midwicket. What a spell Piedt is bowling.

Gone!! Piedt strikes again, this time from round the wicket. It was a beautiful off-spinner that pitched just outside off and turned enough to sneak through the gap that was between Masakadza’s bat. Peidt’s dream debut continues.

Decent first over after Lunch for Zimbabwe. Five runs came from this Philander over. Birthday boy Masakadza and skipper Taylor are looking confident. They need to carry on for the hosts.

 

 

 

 

Lunch at Harare!! Zimbabwe played out the morning session by losing only two wickets. They reached 64 for two. Captain Brendan Taylor and Hamilton Masakadza are at the crease. For South Africa Dale Steyn and Dane Peidt are the two wicket-takers. Not a bad session for the hosts.

 

 

What a debut for Dane Piedt!! wicket of his first ball in Test cricket. He will remember this for a long time. Captain Brendan Taylor is the new man in for Zimbabwe. Piedt become the 19th bowler and second South African after Bert Vogler to take a wicket with his first ball in Tests.

Zimbabwe steady after losing Sibanda early. Vermeulen and Masakadza are playing  For them it’s a matter of pride and determination to give South Africa a tough fight. Meanwhile The have played two debutants in this historic Test match, off-spinner John Nyumbu and right arm pacer Donald Tiripano.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Here comes the first runs for Zimbabwe. It took 22 balls for them to score the first run of this Test match.

 

First wicket gone for Zimbabwe. Vusi Sibanda opened the face of the bat to defend it but nicked it to third slip for Alviro Petersen who took a low catch.

South Africa are coming off from a series win in Sri Lanka, and despite the absence of Jacques Kallis who retired from Test cricket earlier this year, they were able to start the new era on a positive note.  Even though the major players have been rested, South Africa will still be a huge challenge for the Zimbabweans. South Africa’s key players will be returning to the team ahead of the tri-series against Australia and Zimbabwe. The bilateral three-match ODI series between the African countries will be sandwiched between the tri-series and the only Test.
