Panaji: Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar today called on Woman Grandmaster Bhakti Kulkarni here and congratulated her for winning gold medal in the Asian Continental Chess Championship at Tashkent in Uzbekistan. He also assured her all help to prepare for the Women’s World Championship to be held later this year. During the course of discussion held with Chief Minister, Bhakti said, “When I looked at the players’ list I had this feeling that I can win, I prepared by participating in two tournaments in Nashik and Mumbai and went to Uzbekistan, thinking not about the result but playing good chess.”  Parsekar assured her all help and wished her good luck for the Women’s World Championship which will be held shortly.

Bhakti was accompanied by her parents and Goa Chess Association Secretary Kishor Bandekar. Earlier, the Asian champion was accorded a warm welcome at the airport, when she arrived yesterday, by All India Chess Federation, her parents, the local chess associations and her fans.
