Rajkot: Around 40,000 residents along with 25 athletes from Ethiopia and Kenya on Sunday participated in the Rajkot half marathon. Sports personalities, television artists and government officials were also present on the occasion. The half marathon was organised jointly by the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) and city police department to create awareness among the people about traffic sense and importance of cleanliness. Indian cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara, hockey player Rahul Singh, Ghanshyam Nayak, who essays the role of ‘Natukaka’in TV serial “Tarak Mehta ka ooltah Chasmah”, Tanmay Vekariya, who plays “Bagho” in the same serial, civic chief Vijay Nehra, police commissioner Mohan Jha, district collector Manisha Chandra were present.

However, the RMC will announce result later in the day after checking CCTV footages. The event was divided into six categories – half marathon (21km), dream run (10km), fun run (5km), veteran run (2.5km), special run (physically challenged, 1km) and team event.
