Virat Kohli returned to international cricket after a gap of over 7 months, and has registered only ducks in both his comeback matches. This might be a crucial point of his career.
After the Champions Trophy 2025 ended, Virat Kohli returned to international cricket during the three-match ODI series against Australia- registering an 8 and a 4-ball duck in both the matches so far. This has put his career under scrutiny, and with the 2027 World Cup lined not so far, the veteran batter might not have lot of chances to prove himself as an important player for Men in Blue.
Virat Kohli was dismissed while attempting a wide delivery in the first ODI, and then to an inswinger in the second one. Kohli has throughout his career been troubled by these two deliveries, and the instances are clear indication that the veteran batter has not been able to get over that issue.
At this stage of his career, especially with such high pressure to perform, it will be tough for Virat Kohli to overcome this weakness. The 2027 World Cup is going to be played in South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe- where these flaws will be difficult to face in the condition over there.
Virat Kohli is active in the ODI format as he wishes to play in the 2027 World Cup. However, if he constantly fails to perform like this, it will be tough for him to retain his place in the Indian team. Kohli won’t keep his place in the squad because of his past performances, and will have to earn his place in the team.
Following the Australia tour, India is set to play 7 ODI series, out of which 6 will be at home- where the conditions are batting-friendly. If Virat Kohli manages to make most of the conditions at home to his advantage, his form might kick in and we might get to see the best of Kohli once again.
