Former England legend Michael Vaughan has stated that even though he believes Ollie Pope is a great vice-captain, he cannot see Pope as the full-time captain of the team.
Now, former England legend Michael Vaughan has stated that even though Ollie Pope was a good vice-captain, he was not good enough to be the captain of the team. Vaughan also shed light on how Pope was not a natural leader- making it difficult for him to have an influence in the team.
As The Ashes is coming close, and will begin in about 3 months, Michael Vaughan has stated that instead of vice-captain Ollie Pope- Harry Brook might be the one to take the role of the captain if the regular skipper Ben Stokes cannot play.
“I think Ollie Pope is a brilliant vice-captain. But he’s not a captain. And by giving him the captaincy, I can see it a mile off. He’s not a natural leader out in the middle. I saw that last year against Sri Lanka. I have seen it again this week. Say you get to Perth and Ben Stokes, the shoulder or you know, his body’s in bits. Anything could happen with Ben. Fingers crossed he’s fine but just say you go to Perth and Ben can’t play. I can’t have Ollie Pope walk in as skipper. But I can have Harry Brook because I see a natural leader,” Vaughan said in the Stick To Cricket podcast.
Ollie Pope was named the captain in the fifth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy after Ben Stokes had to step out from the clash due to an injury. This led to India having a terrific fight in the final innings, and they won that intense match by 6 runs.
