AUS vs ENG: 1st Ashes match lasts 847 deliveries, becomes second-shortest Test match played in Australia

The 1st game of the Ashes 2025 came to an end on Day 2 of the match, marking the second-shortest Test match in Australia.

The first match of the Ashes Test between Australia and England at the Optus Stadium in Perth began November 21, and the game came to an end on the very next day (November 22), with the Aussies winning the clash by 8 wickets.

The match began Friday and ended Saturday- marking a total of 847 balls being delivered before Australia chased their target in 29 overs with 8 wickets to spare. This marks the second-shortest match ever played in terms of balls bowled Down Under.

Speaking about the shortest match in Australia, the game was against South Africa back in 1931/32, where the clash ended with a result in just 656 balls and the hosts winning the game by an innings and 72 runs. The Aussies scored 153 in their first innings, which the visitors failed to chase throughout and scored 36 and 45 runs in their two innings.

The Test match at the Optus Stadium in Perth also marks the third-shortest game in Ashes. The shortest match (in terms of balls bowled) ever played between Australia and England was back in 1888 where there were 788 balls bowled, and the game was held at the Old Trafford Stadium and ended with the English team winning the match
