Australian player Adam Zampa was warned by the ICC after using inappropriate language in the ongoing match.
“One demerit point has been added to Zampa’s disciplinary record, for whom it was the first offence in a 24-month period. Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points,” said the ICC.
This incident happened in the 37th over of the South Africa’s innings in the first ODI against Australia at Cairns. Adam Zampa got frustrated after a misfield and an overthrow off his bowling. He used inappropriate language, which was caught on the stump mic and went live on the broadcast.
“There was no need for an official hearing, as Zampa admitted to his offence and accepted the official sanction as proposed by Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees,” added the ICC.
In the first ODI, South Africa won by a big margin of 98 runs. Keshav Maharaj starred with an excellent bowling spell of 5 wickets for 33 runs. For Australia, Adam Zampa scored 11 runs with the bat and took 1 wicket for 58 runs while bowling.
Australia won the T20I series 2-1, but South Africa bounced back by winning the first ODI and now lead the three-match series 1-0. The second ODI will be played on August 22 at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay, and the final match will also be held there on August 24.
