BCCI’s stand on ‘no restriction’ over India-Pakistan Asia up clash: A bitter news for fans!
The BCCI has shared their views on the government not preventing India facing Pakistan in multinational events, which has left fans in a state of shock.
The Asia Cup 2025 is going to begin soon, and there have been number of controversies revolving around India and Pakistan teams facing each other. Fans across the world have been boycotting any sort of of cricketing ties between the two nations ever since the Pahalgam terror attack in April, and are criticizing this tournament fixture as well.
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia has now confirmed that the government has not posted any blockages in India playing with countries that are not on friendly terms in multinational events. For those unversed, India and Pakistan are going to face each other in the Asia Cup 2025 on September 14.
Earlier this month, the centra government had confirmed that Indian athletes can face Pakistan in multinational events, but there will not be any sort of bilateral ties between the countries. Devajit Saikia stated that the BCCI is going to follow these guidelines and only play against Pakistan in the Asia Cup. This revelation by the board has left the fans with mixed emotions.
"So far as the BCCI's view is concerned, we have to follow whatever the central government formalises. Recently, our policy, which is in place, regarding India's participation in any multinational tournament or international tournament, there is no restrictions imposed by the central government whether we play any of the countries which are not on good terms with India. So India have to play all the matches in any multinational tournament," Saikia told exclusively to ANI.
"As the ICC Cup is a multinational tournament involving the countries of the Asia continent, so we have to play. And also, for any ICC tournament, when there is a country which is not on friendly terms with India, we have to play in the international tournaments. So far as bilateral is concerned, we are not going to play with any of our hostile countries," he added.
