These were some unforgettable scenes at the Lord’s balcony as the West Indian skipper Clive Lloyd lifted the World Cup for the second successive time in 1979.

The English side ended runners-up after losing the final by 92 runs, but that didn’t deter them in joining the West Indies’ celebrations. In true spirits, they joined Lloyd’s men in the balcony with smiling faces. No doubt that they were defeated but Mike Brearley’s men did win the plaudits of many fans.

Riding on Viv Richards’ hundred, West Indies piled up 286 and later Joel Garner wrecked the English batting line-up with a fifer. From 183 for two, the England side went on to lose their next eight wickets for only 11 runs, to get bowled out for 194.

This was the second and last time West Indies won the World Cup, while for England, they featured in two more finals – in 1987 and 1992, but similar fate ensued as they couldn’t manage to win either.
