These are the players who can replace the England batter in DC's squad for the upcoming season of the marquee cricket league
Brook opts out of IPL 2025
The England batter recently announced that he will not be featuring in the upcoming Indian Premier League season despite getting bought by the Delhi Capitals in the mega auction for INR 6.25 crore last year.
Brook to succeed Jos Buttler as England’s ODI captain?
The England batter is one of the front-runners to succeed Buttler as the Three Lions’ one-day skipper. This comes after the latter recently quit captaincy following England’s dismal Champions Trophy campaign. In the social media post where he revealed that he is opting out of IPL, Brook also stated that he currently wants to fully focus on the national team.
Brook to be banned from IPL?
The England batter can be banned from the league for 2 seasons after opting out from the upcoming season. The IPL governing council introduced a new rule in September last year regarding an overseas player making himself unavailable after getting picked by a team which stated that if a player does so, then he will be banned for 2 seasons.
Brook’s potential replacements
There are many overseas players who can go on to replace the England batter in Delhi Capitals’ squad for the upcoming season. Some of these players can lead the franchise to key victories as well.
1. David Warner
The former Delhi Capitals skipper can reunite with the franchise in the upcoming season. Warner wasn’t bought by any franchise in the auction so if the Delhi Capitals do show interest of bringing him in, then he could become a replacement for Brook. The 38-year-old will have to choose between featuring for Karachi Kings in Pakistan Super League (PSL) or playing IPL as both tournaments will run simultaneously.
2. Dewald Brevis
The explosive batter from South Africa may not have found any bidders at the auction, however his performance for the Mumbai Indians Cape Town in the SA20 turned many heads. Brevis was a key figure in the side which went on to win their maiden SA20 title. The former Mumbai Indians player can be roped in by the Delhi Capitals as Brook’s replacement for the upcoming season.
3. Michael Bracewell
The New Zealand all-rounder and former Royal Challengers Bengaluru star gave impressive performances with the bat as well as the ball in the recently-concluded ICC Champions Trophy. The Delhi Capitals can consider bringing him into the squad as a replacement for Brook due to his brilliant all-round ability.
