Decline in West Indies Test cricket is a CANCER? Here’s what former captain feels…

After West Indies lost first Test against India in Ahmedabad, former captain Darren Sammy had some harsh views to share.

Former West Indies captain Darren Sammy did not cut his words as he spoke about the team’s performance in Test cricket, and compared the team’s decline to “cancer” in the system which has developed over a long period of time.

Darren Sammy, who has led the team to the T20 World Cup victory twice, feels that the role models in the shortest format is without a doubt readily available for Gen-Next because of performances with them playing only with the resources available to them.

I mean last time we won a Test series in 1983, my mother had me. I know now I’m under the microscope. I’m in the middle, and we’re open to criticism, to be criticized by everybody. But, the root of the problem didn’t start two years ago. It’s something that started way back,” Sammy said.

It’s like a cancer that’s already in the system. If you don’t get cancer, you know what happens. And, again, it’s breast cancer month. So, it’s a good way to put it. That our problems don’t lie on the surface. It’s rooted deep into our system,” said Sammy.

These comments by Darren Sammy came after West Indies lost their first Test of the India tour by an innings and 140 runs- which was mainly due to the lack of fight which utterly disappointed the fans.
