Dream11 Ends Sponsorship with BCCI Without Penalty

Dream11 exits Indian cricket sponsorship without penalties, thanks to a contract clause protecting them if their business is banned.

The Indian cricket team might have to play the Asia Cup 2025 without a jersey sponsor after Dream11’s exit. The BCCI is looking for a new sponsor until the 2027 ODI.

World Cup, but the process will take time and may not be completed before the Asia Cup begins on September 9. In an emergency meeting led by interim president Rajeev Shukla, officials discussed finding a new sponsor, but no timeline was finalized.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that their deal with fantasy sports company Dream11 has ended. He also said that the board is now discussing and working on finding a new main sponsor.

Dream11 signed a three-year deal in July 2023, worth ₹358 crore, to become the main sponsor of the Indian cricket team after replacing Byju’s. The company has also been very active in the IPL, partnering with several franchises and even becoming the lead sponsor in 2020 when Vivo pulled out.

Under the new legislation, it will be difficult for BCCI to continue with Dream11 or any other identical gaming companies. So, there is a roadblock and I don’t think BCCI will be able to continue with Dream11 now. We are deliberating on an alternative course of action at this stage,” said Saikia to IANS.

Dream11 will not face any penalties for ending the contract. The agreement had a special clause that protected the company if the government banned its main business, Dream11 wouldn’t have to pay anything to the BCCI.
