‘Emergency replacement’: BCCI launches new substitute rule considering Rishabh Pant’s fractured toe

The topic of replacement has been a great topic of discussion since the fourth match of the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy, where Rishabh Pant and Chris Woakes injured major injuries, but had to come out to bat since the International Cricket Council (ICC) only allows substitutes for concussions.

Speaking about the new rule, it states that the players that suffer an injury due to an outside blow- that makes them unavailable for the remainder of the clash- will be up for injury replacements. Only players that get nominated before the match can be used as the substitute. The BCCI also clarified that this rule will be applied to red-ball matches and not in white-ball cricket.

“If a player sustains a serious injury during the course of the relevant match, a Serious Injury Replacement may be permitted in the following circumstances. The serious injury must have been sustained during play and within the playing area described in clause,” the newly-introduced rule in the Playing Conditions states.
