Former wicketkeeper-batter Farokh Engineer shared his surprise on Kuldeep Yadav not being in the opening match of the five-math Test series against England. Farokh has called Kuldeep a 'trump card' who needs to be taken in the whole series.

For the series opener at Headingley in Leeds, India decided to go with a pace-heavy attach as four pacers and a single spinner in veteran allrounder Ravindra Jadeja was taken in.

"I would have liked Kuldeep Yadav to be in the playing XI. He is your trump card alongside (Jasprit) Bumrah, I would have picked him. Since he is a quality bowler England batters would find it difficult to play him. So, I would play him in all five games," Engineer told PTI.

Speaking about England's bowling attach, Farokh noted that the Indian side should make use of their weak bowling attack. "England lack quality spinners. Young Bashir, despite a decent Test record, isn't great and can concede runs. Our batsmen excel against off-spin, so they'll capitalise on him," he said.

India's playing XI for 1st Test:
Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill(c), Rishabh Pant(w), Karun Nair, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna.
