On his historic home Test century against West Indies, KL Rahul shared his honest opinion about his achievement.
This century by KL Rahul was historic because this is only his second one at home, and his last ton was back in 2016 against England in Chennai- where he had scored 199. Now, this hundred marks a historic knock as Rahul completed a centurial knock in home after 3211 days. This marks the longest time between two instances where an Indian has completed 100 runs in a home Test.
Speaking about the game, KL Rahul mentioned that travelling abroad to play in swinging conditions and then playing back home presents a massive challenge. Rahul stated that it gets tough to score boundaries and most of the runs are to be scored via singles and doubles, which requires a switch in the mental condition of oneself.
“Obviously when you travel abroad and play seaming swinging conditions with extra bounce, there’s a lot of challenge doing that. And when you come back home, when there are three spinners playing and the field’s spread out, you really need to get your runs with singles. The boundaries don’t come that easily. So yeah, that’s something that I’ve worked on and needed to make that mental switch to enjoy doing that, enjoy grinding and getting 100s with singles and twos as well,” Rahul said after stumps were called on Day 2.
Speaking about KL Rahul, he scored exactly 100 runs in 197 balls before being caught out by Justin Greaves off a delivery by Jomel Warrican. His centurial outing was accompanied by 12 fours and he had a unique ‘2-fingers in mouth’ celebration for this achievement- which is a tribute to his daughter, who was born on March 2025.
