‘Gill Texted me…’: Punjab Kings’ star spinner joins Indian squad ahead of 2nd Test for net practice in England
As Indian team begin their practice session ahead of the 2nd Test against ENgland, Punjab Kings spinner Harpreet Brar has joined the squad in nets.
As India aims to make a comeback in the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy following a defeat in the first Test in Leeds, the team has begun their training for the second match- which is set to begin 2nd June at Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham.
For the practice sessions, a few new faces have joined the team in the nets. One of them is Harpreet Brar- who earned a good reputation while playing for Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Harpreet was seen in the Indian team in nets, and also revealed the story behind him being included in the squad.
Harpreet Brar stated that his wife is from England, and her hometown- Swindon- is only almost one-and-a-half hour away from Birmingham. The 29-year-old also revealed that he was talking to Shubman Gill, who asked him to join the team and help in practice.
“My wife is from here, from Swindon. So, it’s quite close to Birmingham. It’s a 1-1.5 hour drive. I was talking to Shubman (Gill). He texted me yesterday, so I said, okay, let’s go. Let’ practice there," said Brar in a video posted by BCCI.TV.
Notably, Harpreet Brar and Shubman Gill come from Punjab, and have been in the same dressing room for several years as they played domestic cricket.
