Gus Atkinson took a fifer against India in their first innings of the 5th Test against England at The Oval. This led him to make a 129-year-old historic record.

1 /1

The fifer by Gus Atkinson- which included wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna- helped him reach 60 dismissals in 13 matches at an average of 21 and a strike-rate of 34.9.

With these numbers, Gus Atkinson broke a massive record and became the first player in 129 long years to take 60 wickets at a strike-rate of less than 35.

England great George Lohmann is the only player above Gus Atkinson, as he took 60 wickets with a strike-rate of 34.1. Lohmann played his last Test match in 1896
