‘He’s phenomenal…’: Former England star gives blunt verdict on a Young Shubman Gill as Indian captain

Former England star Monty Panesar backed Shubman Gill for getting his game better than before, and has stated that Gill's game is going to keep getting better and better in upcoming years.

Following a splendid tour with the bat in the recently-concluded England series, former English star player Monty Panesar has backed India’s Test captain Shubman Gill to lift his game to a new level in the next few years.

During his first assignment as India’s Test captain, Shubman Gill silenced all his critics with his technique and batting skills- coming out as the highest run-scorer in the five-match series- scoring 754 runs. Panesar spoke about some of the major changes in Gill’s batting technique, especially highlighting his improved footwork.

Shubman Gill rose to the challenge. I always thought that he was almost lazy in his footwork when he wasn’t the captain, and now, he’s phenomenal. And I think we’re going to hopefully see the best of them in the next couple of years,” Panesar told Hindustan Times.

Shubman Gill scored four centuries in total- which also included a double-century (a score of 267 runs). In total he scored 732 runs, breaking legendary Sunil Gavaskar’s record for highest run total by an Indian captain in a five-match Test series.
