The star Australian pacer Mitchell Starc has announced his retirement from the T20 internationals and shocked the whole cricket world and fans as well. Starc was the second-highest T20 wicket-taker for his nation.

Mitchell Starc has retired from T20 internationals, officially ending his career in the shortest format. The left-arm pacer played 65 T20Is for Australia and announced earlier this week that he is stepping away from the format, closing a chapter that spanned over a decade in the country’s T20 setup.

I probably should have rang Mitchy,” Starc told Cricket.com.au. “He texted me and said he found out through Instagram. I felt bad about that one — I didn’t tell the captain. Sorry, Mitchy.” he said.

I did let them know, I did not ask them. I spoke to Ronnie (Andrew McDonald), and then told the two of them, I was done. Yeah, that was about it,” he added.

Starc ended his T20I career as Australia’s second-highest wicket-taker. In 65 matches, he claimed 79 wickets with an economy rate of 7.74. He also played in five T20 World Cups and was a key player in Australia’s first-ever T20 World Cup victory in 2021.

At 35, Starc said he had been thinking about retiring for some time, especially since players like Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, and Marcus Stoinis also began reducing their white-ball cricket. His main focus now is to look after his body, continue playing Test cricket, and stay ready for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
