During the voting period — 18 September 2014 to 13 September 2015 — the 26-year-old cricketer finished as the leading run-scorer in Tests with 1,734 runs in 13 games at an average of 82.57 with seven centuries and six half-centuries. In 26 One-Day Internationals (ODIs), Smith scored 1,249 runs at an average of just under 60 with four centuries and eight half-centuries. He was also a member of the Australian team which won the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 in earlier this year.

South Africa’s ODI captain AB de Villiers got the ICC ODI cricketer of the year award for the second successive year. He has also won the award previously in 2010. During the voting period, de Villiers scored 1,265 runs in 20 innings at an average of just over 79 and a strike-rate of 128.4. He also hit two centuries and nine half-centuries during the period.

His team-mate and South Africa’s Twenty20 International (T20I) captain Faf du Plessis won the ICC T20I Performance of the Year award for his swashbuckling 56-ball 119 against the West Indies in Johannesburg on January 11, 2015.
