Australia is poised for their first Test match win since the ball-tampering scandal after spinner Nathan Lyon claimed the prized wicket of Indian captain Virat Kohli in the second Test in Perth on Monday.

Resuming the day at 132/4, Australia’s Tim Paine and Usman Khawaja saw off the first session, scoring 58 runs and extending their lead over India to 233

However, Mohammed Shami turned things around post lunch removing Paine and Aaron Finch off consecutive deliveries in the first over of the the second session

Shami then struck again to get rid of the well-set Usman Khawaja for 72 to further dent Australia and in the process took his fourth 5-wicket haul in Tests

Jasprit Bumrah got on to stay low that snuck underneath Pat Cummins’ bat and crashed on to the stumps

Shami added his sixth in the form of Nathan Lyon as Australia lost five wickets after lunch for just 17 runs

But, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood added a valuable 36 runs for the final wicket, before Bumrah wrapped up the Australian innings at 243. India needed 287 runs to win

Hazlewood then got the big fish Cheteshwar Pujara with a rising delivery that took the faintest of edge – off the glove – to Paine to depart for 4

Lyon then proceeded to remove Murali Vijay with one that hit the rough and turned taking an inside edge on to the stumps

Ajinkya Rahane and Hanuma Vihari then combined for a stand of 43 runs before Hazlewood broke through removing Rahane for 30

At close of play Vihari was in the middle batting on 24, with Rishabh Pant for company on 9. India are 112/5, adrift of the target by 175 runs
