IN PICS: India vs West Indies, 2nd ODI

India beat West Indies by 59 runs (DLS) to go 1-0 up.

Dhawan wasn’t originally given out, but Jason Holder got the decision reviewed as the ball would have crashed into the middle stump. Dhawan departed for 2 as Trinidad witnessed the famous Cottrell salute. @ AFP

Kohli and Rohit Sharma then put India back on track with a 74-run partnership, but just as the duo were beginning to accelerate, Roston Chase was rewarded with the wicket of Rohit, who lost his patience and lobbed an easy one to Nicholas Pooran at cover to depart for 18. @ AFP

Kohli, however, looked in sublime touch and reached his half-century, his 55th in ODIs. @ AFP

Rishabh Pant, promoted to No. 4, meanwhile, failed to deliver to his captain’s expectations and fell recklessly to Carlos Brathwaite for 20. @ AFP

The match was a historic one for the Universe Boss Chris Gayle, who set foot in his landmark 300th ODI, thus becoming the first West Indies player to reach the milestone. @ AFP

India were on the backfoot early on as Shikhar Dhawan, on a comeback trail after a thumb injury ruled him out of the World Cup, was given marching orders by Sheldon Cottrell in the first over of the innings. @ AFP

India captain Virat Kohli won the toss and opted to bat against West Indies in the second ODI at the Port of Spain in Trinidad on Sunday with both teams eyeing a lead after the opening match at Guyana was abandoned due to rain. @ AFP

Virat Kohli was his animated self throughout the second innings. He did not shy away from exchanging a few words here and there and in addition to his century, also took three catches to dismiss Lewis, Pooran and Shimron Hetmyer. (AFP Image)

Nicholas Pooran scored 42 off 52 with four boundaries. He was harsh on both spinners – Kuldeep Yadav and Kedar Jadhav and forged a 56-run partnership with Lewis for the fourth wicket. (AFP Image)

Bhuvneshwar finished with 4/31 and bowled the over of the match. He beat Pooran with pace who top edged to Kohli. Two balls later, he pulled off a stunning, one-handed return catch to see the back of Chase. Next over, he added a fourth wicket when he cleaned up Kemar Roach. (AFP Image)

Evin Lewis injured his calf muscle early in the innings when he spanked a pull from Bhuvneshwar for a six. He continued to struggle through the course of his innings but battled on to top score with 65 off 80 balls with eight boundaries and one six. (AFP Image)

In his 300th ODI, Gayle surpassed the great Brian Lara to become West Indies’ leading run-scorer in ODIs. However, there would be no Gayle special on Sunday as he was trapped LBW by Bhuvneshwar Kumar for 11, the review not saving him. (AFP Image)
