In Pics: The One-Season Wonders of Indian Premier League

A look at the cricketers who hogged the limelight for one season before disappearing without building on it.

The left-arm pacer made his debut in 2009 for Rajasthan Royals and his slingy action created trouble for few batsmen. He was impressive in maiden season before his action was called out for chucking. He took corrective measures but found little success afterwards.

The right-arm pacer debuted for Chennai Super Kings in 2008 and took 17 wickets. He was called up for India squad and took two wickets in as many matches. His career took a nosedive afterwards and he retired in 2019.

He was signed by Deccan Chargers in 2009 before shifting to Kolkata Knight Riders. He’s remembered for his match-winning 89 off 48 balls in the IPL 2012 final when KKR beat CSK to win the title. He was released after a poor next season.

The Mumbai batsman stormed into the spotlight with a blazing century – 63-ball 120 – against Chennai Super Kings in 2011. He scored 463 runs during that season. However, injury hampered his progress further and he couldn’t replicate the success.

In his debut season, the legspinner took 13 wickets in 14 matches that included the scalp of Sachin Tendulkar. His eye-catching performance resulted in an India call-up but a combination of non-performance, dip in form and off-field issues put a brake on his IPL career.

Asnodkar tasted immediate success, as he won IPL title with Rajasthan Royals in 2008. He scored 311 runs in nine innings and struck an impressive opening partnership with South Africa legend Graeme Smith. He couldn’t replicate the success in the next season and eventually was dropped from his domestic team, Goa, as well.
