Ishant Sharma, one of the heroes in India’s series win in Sri Lanka, entered the record books when he dismissed the Lankan skipper Angelo Mathews on the final day of the SSC Test at Colombo. Ishant became only the eighth Indian bowler to enter the 200-wicket club in Test cricket.

Ishant, who took a fifer in the first innings, became only the fourth Indian pacer to reach the milestone. Making his debut at the age of 18, against Bangladesh at Dhaka in 2007, Ishant took 65 Tests to reach the landmark. [Also Read: Amul’s take on Ishant Sharma’s verbal spat with Dhammika Prasad]

Though he didn’t reach the landmark with the best of career averages, Ishant has bloomed late and over the years has improved. Last year, his best innings bowling figures of seven for 74 resulted in India’s first Test win at Lord’s since 1986.

India will hope he continues improving as in times to come, as his form will be crucial to the team’s success as they face against tougher oppositions in the near future.
