The latest list released by International Cricket Council (ICC) shows England's star batter Joe Root reclaiming the top position in the men's Test rankings. This was greatly with the help of his score of 140 and 40 runs in the third Test of the five-match series against India.
Joe Root had lost his place to his companion Harry Brook, but now, at the age of 34, Root is the oldest No. 1 Test batter since Kumar Sangakkara- who had claimed the top spot in 2014 at the age of 37. Brook is currently down to third position- behind Kane Williamson.
Speaking about Indian batters, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and vice-captain Rishabh Pant have dropped down and are at fifth and eighth place respectively, with captain Shubman Gill also going down three places to 9th.
On the other hand, Ravindra Jadeja has risen five places after scores of 72 and 61* at Lord's. Along with Jadeja, KL Rahul- who scored a century and 39 in the same match- has also climbed 5 places, and is sitting right behind the allrounder at 35th spot.
The Player of The Match performance by England captain Ben Stokes- scoring 77 runs and five wickets at Lord's- helped him go up two places and sit at 42nd place among batters and 45th place in bowlers.
