Star New Zealand cricketer Kane Williamson joins Lucknow Super Giants ahead of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.

Star New Zealand cricketer Kane Williamson has been appointed as the new strategic advisor for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the IPL. He will get the position after former Indian great Zaheer Khan stepped down as the mentor of the team during IPL 2025.

However, the interesting fact is that Kane Williamson was already associated with the Durban’s Super Giants, which is the sister franchise of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), during the year’s SA20 League.

Kane has been a part of the Super Giants family and it’s an absolute delight to welcome him in his new role as Strategic Advisor for @LucknowIPL.

His leadership, strategic insight, deep understanding of the game, and ability to inspire players make him an invaluable addition to the team,” wrote Goenka, the chairman of RPSG Group, on his ‘X’ account on Thursday.

Kane Williamson is currently on a casual contract with New Zealand Cricket (NZC). His most recent appearance for the national team came during the 2025 Champions Trophy, where New Zealand put up a strong performance but eventually finished as runners-up after losing to India in the final.

Kane Williamson has played 79 matches in the IPL and represents two different franchises, Sunrisers, Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans and scored 2128 runs with an average of 35.46 and a strike rate of 125.61. He also achieved the most runs-scoring milestone in the 2018 season.
