Kevin Pietersen and Andrew Strauss: It is peace, finally!

There have been a lot of things said and heard about the relationship between former England captain Andrew Strauss and the charismatic batsman Kevin Pietersen, since the latter’s exclusion from the national side. Both the South Africa-born cricketers went on to have successful careers for England.

Good friends at the start, things worsened after the text message gate in 2012. South Africa were touring England and it was Strauss’s last series. Pietersen made his way back to the side, only after he apologised publically. Terming Pietersen as a disruptive influence, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) dropped him from the side in 2014. Last year, when Strauss was appointed as ECB’s Director, there were hopes for Pietersen’s return to the national fold but the former made it clear that England were looking beyond Pietersen.

Tensions followed and Strauss received flak for his stubbornness but all seemed forgotten once England won the Ashes. Now it seems that both the modern English greats have flushed out those differences. Pietersen was seen shaking hands and posing for photographs with Strauss at the BMW PGA Celebrity Pro-Am at Wentworth.

As reported by DailyMail.co.uk, both Strauss and Pietersen took part in the annual Pro-Am golf event with famous journalist Piers Morgan. Morgan, who is a big fan of Pietersen, posted the below image from his official Twitter account by saying, “Peace in our time!”

Other than Pietersen and Strauss, former cricketer Michael Vaughan, Brian Lara with other famous personalities like Mike Tindall, Ian Wright, AP McCoy, Paul Scholes, Peter Schmeichel, Robbie Fowler and Alan Hansen took part in this event.

In the above picture, both Pietersen and Strauss can be seen smiling while posing for a photograph but who knows whether that smile is just for the sake of it or not. It was the latter who slammed the national doors for one of England’s best ever batsmen.
