The explosive duo of KL Rahul and Shubman Gill achieved a massive feat after they got dismissed on scores of 100 and 50 respectively. This made them mark a historic 61 year old record.
Coming out to bat on Day 2, Indian captain Shubman Gill departed for a score of 50 off 100 balls- marking the only wicket before the lunch break. Later, Rahul reached his century and was dismissed on the exact 100-run mark.
The dismissal of Shubman Gill on 50 runs and KL Rahul on 100 runs marked a rare feat as this has happened only the second time in the history of Test cricket. The previous instance when this happened was 61 years ago- also by India against England at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
The two batters who were dismissed on scores of 50 and 100 runs 61 years ago were Motganhalli Jaismha and Budhi Kunderan respectively. This was back in the year 1964 and that match had eventually ended up in a draw.
