01. MS Dhoni
Mahendra Singh Dhoni ranks first on the list as he has won the most number of matches in the Indian Premier League. Leading Chennai Super Kings and Rising Pune Super Giants between 2008 and 2025, Dhoni secured 134 victories in 230 matches. Under his leadership, CSK has won five IPL titles, making him one of the most successful captains in IPL history.
02. Rohit Sharma
Former Mumbai Indians captain ranks second on the list of most wins as a captain in IPL history. Rohit Sharma is also known as one of the most successful captains, having led MI to five IPL titles. Between 2013 and 2023, he won 87 out of 158 matches as captain.
03. Gautam Gambhir
Current Indian Cricket Team head coach and Former Kolkata Knight Riders captain ranks third on the list of most wins as a captain in IPL history. Leading Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals between 2009-2018, Gautam Gambhir has secured 71 victories in 129 games. Under his captaincy, KKR has won two IPL trophies in 2012 and 2014.
04. Virat Kohli
Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain ranks fourth on the list of most wins as a captain in IPL history. Virat Kohli has played exclusively for RCB since the inception of the Indian Premier League in 2008. Between 2011 and 2023, he won 66 out of 143 matches as captain.
05. Shreyas Iyer
The Punjab Kings ranks fifth on the list of most wins as a captain in IPL history. Leading Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings between 2018-2025, Shreyas Iyer has secured 43 victories in 79 matches. KKR won the IPL trophy in 2024 under his captaincy.

The Austarlian Batter and former Sunrisers Hyederabad captain ranks sixth on the list of most wins as a captain in IPL history. Leading Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyedrabad between 2013-2023, David Warner has secured 40 victories in 83 matches. SRH won the IPL trophy in 2016 under his captaincy.
07. Adam Gilchrist
The Former Australia cricketer ranks seventh on the list of of most wins as a captain in IPL history. Leading Deccan Charges and Kings XI Punjab between 2008-2013, Adam Gilchrist has secured 35 victories in 74 matches.
