Former Australian fast bowler Glenn McGrath recently shared his list of the top five Indian ODI batters of all time and made a surprising choice. He placed Rohit Sharma above legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar while also leaving out former opener Virender Sehwag.
Rohit Sharma, who made his ODI debut against Ireland in 2007, has played 276 matches so far and scored 11,370 runs. In comparison, Sachin Tendulkar ended his ODI career with a record 18,426 runs in 463 matches including more than 3,000 runs against Australia alone.
In his list of the top five Indian ODI batters of all time, Glenn McGrath ranked Virat Kohli at the No. 1 spot, followed by Rohit Sharma in second place. Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, and Yuvraj Singh completed his top five, rounding out a lineup of India’s most celebrated limited-overs players.
Speaking about Rohit, McGrath said, “My No. 2 (is) Rohit Sharma. His stats in one-day cricket and the way he played the game (is) unbelievable. Three double hundreds and the highest score of 264 is just unheard of. Unbelievable. 276 matches over 11,000 runs.”
”Probably a little bit unfortunately earmarked as a one-day specialist, his stats at Test cricket should have been better because he was a class player. I would put him at No. 2, and at No. 1, it’s hard to go past Virat Kohli.”. ”You look at the runs he scored, the average, and the strike rate unbelievable. We saw that the other night,” he added.
Rohit Sharma has an impressive ODI record against Australia, performing consistently both at home and away. He scored his first-ever double century a stunning 209 against Australia in 2013 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Additionally, he has registered five ODI centuries on Australian soil, showcasing his dominance against one of the strongest bowling attacks in world cricket.
