Rajasthan Royals dragged to the Supreme Court over S Sreesanth Insurance claim Controversy

The Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Rajasthan Royals have been dragged to the Supreme Court over Sreesanth Insurance claim controversy.

During the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2012, one controversial incident happened where the winner of the first edition Rajasthan Royals were dragged to the Supreme Court over a 2012 involving S Sreesanth insurance claim controversy.

Rajasthan Royals claimed that Sreesanth missed the 2012 IPL season due to his knee injury and sought compensation through insurance. However, the United India Insurance Company disputed this, arguing that Sreesanth was already carrying a toe injury that would have kept him out of the tournament regardless of the knee problem.

Rajasthan Royals filed an insurance claim of over ₹82 lakh after Sreesanth was ruled out of the 2012 IPL season due to a knee injury suffered during a practice match.

However, the insurance company rejected the claim, arguing that Sreesanth already had a toe injury from 2011, which he hadn’t disclosed. They further stated that this older injury was the actual reason he couldn’t play, or at least should have been revealed when the policy was taken.

Rajasthan Royals argued that Sreesanth’s old toe injury wasn’t an issue since he was still playing with it. They claimed the only reason he missed the 2012 season was because of a new knee injury that happened during the insured period.

The NCDRC had earlier ruled in favor of Rajasthan Royals, asking the insurance company to pay the claim. However, the insurance company has now challenged this ruling in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has not yet given a verdict and has asked for more documents, including Sreesanth’s fitness certificate, to check whether his old toe injury was ever disclosed.
