Ravi Shastri clears ‘Misconception’ on KL Rahul moving up-and-down the order after historic home Test century

This century by KL Rahul was a memorable one for him as it was a home Test century after a gap of more than 3200 days. The last home ton was back in December 2016, and Rahul had since then played 16 consecutive home red-ball matches without a ton while making a solid image of himself as a reliable batter.

Speaking about KL Rahul, former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri pointed that Rahul’s overall performance was not an outcome of constantly switching positions in the order, ending the delusion that he had not been given a long time at any position. Noting out his stats, Ravi stated how KL has played a majority of his outings at the top of the order.

“It’s a misconception that he has gone up and down the order. Because if you actually look at his career, since that Test he opened (2016 against England), he has opened in 94 innings and there have been a total of 110 innings in that period. So, it is 90 per cent of the time, he has opened the innings. It’s because of the mix in white-ball cricket that you get a little confused,” Ravi said.

Speaking about KL Rahul, he scored exactly 100 runs during India’s first innings on Day 2. He was dismissed exactly on the 100-run mark, and a main highlight of his outing was his new and unique ‘2 fingers in mouth’ celebration- which was actually a tribute to his daughter- who was born in March earlier this year.
