Ahead of the fourth Test against England, which is a do-or-die for India, the visitors are in a tense spot regarding the availability of wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant- who had sustained an injury of his left index finger while keeping the wickets. However, assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has stated that the team is giving him as much time as possible to be able to recover.
During the Lord's Test, Rishabh Pant had secured an injury on his left index finger- for which he also had to leave the field mid match- and Dhruv Jurel was sent in to fulfill the keeping duties. After the match ended, Shubman Gill stated that Pant will play in Manchester.
Ryan spoke about Rishabh Pant's injury, stating that the team doesn't want to change the keeper mid-match and are making sure he gives as much rest to his finger as possible. “Keeping is obviously the last part of the process to make sure that he can keep. We don't want to go through that again where we have to replace the keeper halfway through in the innings. But he rested today. We're just trying to give his finger as long as possible and hopefully he's good to go in Manchester in the first training session,” he said.
Speaking about Dhruv Jurel, who took wicketkeeping duties in Rishabh Pant's absence, Ryan said, “He is in the equation. But I mean, obviously, if Rishabh is fit, he plays the next Test and does both.”
Even though the Indian team lost the Lord's Test and are trailing the series 1-2, they still have a chance to win as they aim to win the upcoming two matches- with the next match set to be held at Manchester from July 23rd
