These are the players who have so far not been able to live up to their massive price tags and have underperformed big time in the ongoing IPL season
1. Rishabh Pant (Lucknow Super Giants)
The Lucknow Super Giants skipper became the most expensive player in IPL history at last year’s auction with the franchise acquiring him for a humongous fee of INR 27 crore. However, saying that Pant has underperformed in the ongoing season would be an understatement as he has only managed to score 106 runs in LSG’s first 8 matches of the campaign.
2. Ravindra Jadeja (Chennai Super Kings)
The veteran Chennai Super Kings all-rounder was retained by the franchise for a huge fee of INR 18 crore ahead of the 2025 IPL auction. However, Jadeja hasn’t been able to justify his tag in either the batting or bowling department. He has only scored 145 runs so far in the ongoing season and has only been able to take 5 wickets in his side’s first 8 matches of the campaign.
3. Mohammed Shami (Sunrisers Hyderabad)
The veteran India pacer was acquired by the Sunrisers Hyderabad for a whopping fee of INR 10 crore. Shami was expected to get back in form with the tournament, however it is the opposite which ended up happening as so far, he has only taken 5 wickets in 7 matches and has also given away runs at an economy rate of 10.87.
4. Rashid Khan (Gujarat Titans)
The Afghanistan spinner was retained by the Gujarat Titans ahead of the 2025 IPL auction for a massive fee of INR 18 crore. However, Rashid has severely underperformed this season, failing to justify his enormous price tag. The turner has so far only been able to take 6 wickets in 8 matches, giving away runs at an economy rate of 9.26.
5. Ishan Kishan (Sunrisers Hyderabad)
The Sunrisers Hyderabad batter was acquired by the franchise for an enormous fee of INR 11.25 crore at the 2025 IPL auction. Kishan had a phenomenal start to the season, scoring a tremendous century in his side’s tournament opener against the Rajasthan Royals. However, his form has dried up since then and he currently only has 138 runs under his name this season.
6. Heinrich Klaasen (Sunrisers Hyderabad)
The explosive Sunrisers Hyderabad batter was retained by the franchise for a gigantic fee of INR 23 crore ahead of the 2025 IPL auction. Klaasen had performed brilliantly for the Hyderabad-based franchise last season, however his form has completely dwindled in the ongoing IPL campaign and as of current, he only has 210 runs under his name in 7 matches.
7. Rohit Sharma (Mumbai Indians)
The Mumbai Indians batter was retained by the franchise ahead of the 2025 IPL auction for a whopping fee of INR 16 crore. However, Rohit hasn’t been able to live up to his price tag so far in the season as he has only managed to score 158 runs in his side’s first 7 matches of the ongoing campaign.
8. Venkatesh Iyer (Kolkata Knight Riders)
The Kolkata Knight Riders batter was acquired by the franchise for a humongous fee of INR 23.75 crore. However, Venkatesh certainly hasn’t been able to live up to his price tag as he has only managed to score 135 runs in his side’s first 8 matches of the ongoing season. He will looking to pick up form in KKR’s upcoming games.
