Shreyas Iyer injury update: Report suggests at Least 2-3 months on the sidelines!

Shreyas Iyer injured his spleen during the ODI series against Australia, and latest report has suggested that he will be out of action for couple months.

Indian batter Shreyas Iyer faced a rather critical injury to his spleen during Australia tour a while ago, for which he is under close examination. 30-year-old Iyer injured himself when he tried attempting a catch, which even though he secured, he also landed awkwardly and was taken off the field by the physios.

At first, it was suspected that the injury is a regular one, but things got serious as Shreyas Iyer was soon admitted to the ICU because of internal bleeding. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) then revealed that the incident caused a laceration to his spleen. Since then it has been understood that Shreyas will be out of action for some time.

Shreyas Iyer is currently undergoing through a rehabilitation process, and has reportedly underwent an ultrasonography (USG) scan near his residence earlier this week. As per a report bySports Tak, the scans have shown positive results, but Shreyas has been told to avoid intra-abdominal pressure for at least 1 month. Along with that, Iyer also has to go through another USG scan at the two-month mark.

Once the results of the second USG scan comes out, it will then be decided whether Shreyas Iyer gets the chance to begin rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE). Considering the cautious rehab process, it can be said that Shreyas will be spending next couple of months on the sidelines.

This injury is going to be a massive setback for Shreyas Iyer, as he recently got appointed as India’s vice-captain in the ODI format and had also secured his place in the team. Before the incident, it seemed like Shreyas was well on his way to be an important player for the Men in Blue for their upcoming assignments, but he will not be focusing on gaining complete fitness.
