Shubman Gill played a historic knock of 269 runs in the first innings and followed it up with 161 runs in second innings.
Shubman Gill joins elite club
Former Indian great opener Sunil Gavaskar was the first Asian to achieve this feat in Test history. He scored a brilliant 124 runs in the first innings against the West Indies at Port of Spain.

Gavaskar’s dominance with the bat continued in the second innings as well. He took an even more aggressive approach, scoring 220 runs against the Caribbean side. In total, Gavaskar amassed 344 runs in that Test match.

The second player to achieve this feat was former Sri Lankan legendary wicketkeeper-batsman Kumar Sangakkara. He piled up a mountain of runs against Bangladesh in the Chittagong Test in 2014.

Sangakkara delivered a charismatic performance in the first innings against Bangladesh, scoring a magnificent 319 runs. His fine form continued in the second innings as well, where he added another 105 runs to his tally.

India’s captain Shubman Gill has become the third Asian and only the second Indian batsman to join this elite list. He scored a double century in the first innings and followed it up with a century in the second innings of the Edgbaston Test.
