Shubman Gill set to be Promoted in India’s Leadership role? Report

According to a report, even though he is India's Test captain, Shubman Gill is now also going to be promoted in the T20I format, as he is going to be named the vice-captain of the team.

“With Suryakumar Yadav set to be fit for the tournament, which will be played in T20 format this year, Gill is likely to deputise for him. This will not only mark Gill’s return to the T20I setup but also enhance his status as a growing leader in the Indian dressing room across formats,” the report said.

As of now, Suryakumar Yadav is the captain of the Indian team in the 20-over format, along with Axar Patel being his deputy. The two roles were previously occupied by superstars Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya- with Rohit being the captain and Hardik being the vice-captain.

Shubman Gill made his last appearance in 20-over international format right after the 2024 T20 World Cup- during the white-ball tour of Sri Lanka. Notably, that tour was also the first assignment of Gautam Gambhir as India’s head coach.
