In a recent interaction with Gaurav Kapur for a YouTube video, Tilak Varma revealed that he was once diagnosed with a muscle threatening disorder.
Tilak Varma actually got diagnosed with a disease known as rhabdomyolysis, which is a condition that affects muscles on multiple levels and causes muscle strains. However, Tilak gave credit to Jay Shah, Centre of Excellence and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for taking extremely good care of him.

“I started having issues with my health after my first IPL. I wanted to be fit. This thing so far has not been released on the news as this is the first time I have got a chance to speak up about this, but I was diagnosed with rhabdomyolysis, a condition that breaks down the muscles. At that time I wanted to enter the Test team, was playing domestic cricket, playing India A series, camps were being held, and was going to the gym even on rest days. Wanted to be the fittest player in the World Cup, wanted to be quick on the field, that’s why couldn’t focus on complete recovery. Was taking ice baths, was sleeping, but body was still not recovering; and needed proper rest,” Tilak told Gaurav Kapur on Breakfast With Champions.
“I was pushing even on rest days. So, the muscles got overstrained and broke down. My nerves became extremely stiff. I was with the Mumbai Indians team, and India A was playing a series in Bangladesh. I pushed 100 balls, and then my eyes started watering. I couldn’t even move my bat, my fingers couldn’t move, everything became stiff. My wrist hurt, I had to cut off my gloves because my fingers couldn’t move. I spoke to Akash Bhai, BCCI, and they also helped me a lot. Thanks to Jay Shah Sir, COE. I went to the hospital, and they said there could have been a little more delay, anything could have happened,” he added.
Speaking about Tilak Varma, he will soon be seen in action for the five-match T20I series against Australia. Tilak has also almost secured his place in India’s T20 World Cup squad, but is in need of a consistent performance in order keep his place with the ongoing challenges.
