1. Murali Vijay – 144

The former India captain scored a fine century in Brisbane during the 2003/04 Border-Gavaskar series to carry the Men in Blue over Australia’s first inning total of 323. India would get bundled out for 409 and take a healthy lead over the hosts. Australia would eventually set a target of 199 for the visitors, who finished the final day of the Test on 73/2 as the match ended in a draw.

2. Sourav Ganguly – 144

During India’s tour of Australia back in 1977, Gavaskar played a sensational knock to almost lead the visitors to a famous victory at The Gabba. After being given a difficult target of 341 to chase, India lost Dilip Vengsarkar early before Gavaskar formed decent stands with the next batters to take India’s total over 200. In the process, he also completed a fantastic century before losing his wicket to Wayne Clark. India would eventually get bundled out for 324, losing the match by just a 17-run margin.

During India’s tour of Australia in 1968, they would once again fall short of victory by a tiny margin at The Gabba. The visitors were given a difficult target of 395 by the Australian team in Brisbane. In reply, Rusi Surti and Chandu Borde scored fifties, but the star of the show was undoubtedly Jaisimha, who scored a brilliant century to take India within touching distance of the target. However, Australia would take control after Jaisimha fell and go on to bundle out India for 355, winning the match by 39 runs.

The India batter played a splendid knock which massively helped India in completing a famous victory over Australia at The Gabba in the 2020/21 Border-Gavaskar series. Chasing a target of 328, Gill gave India a strong start with a fine innings. Though Rishabh Pant’s unbeaten knock of 89 took all the spotlight, Gill’s knock was also quite important for the Men in Blue to triumph over the hosts in Brisbane.
