‘Unlucky’ Former Indian pacer steps into BCCI chairs: Applied for the post of a selector
Former Indian pacer Praveen Kumar, who did not have a fruitful career, has applied for a role in BCCI senior men's selection committee.
Former Indian pacer Praveen Kumar ahs submitted application for a role as a national selector. He will be representing the Central Zone. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has earlier opened applications on August 22- about two positions in the senior men's selection committee- with the deadline of September 10.
The applicants for the position are needed to have retired from all forms of cricket for at least five years along with passing the minimum criteria set by BCCI in order of playing in Test matches, first-class matches or List-A clashes.
According to report by IANS, Praveen Kuma has applied for national selector role for the Central Zone. As of now, Former Indian pacer Subroto Banerjee represents the Central Zone in selection committee. Ex-India pacer RP Singh has also reportedly considered applying before the deadline.
“Yes, it is confirmed that Praveen Kumar has applied for being the next national selector from the Central Zone. Now it will be fascinating to see who all put their hand up, with the deadline now just five days away. With the deadline coming close now, you never know if he (RP Singh) may give it a go,” said sources.
Praveen Kumar has 112 wickets in 84 international matches to his name across all formats, and is regarded as one of the unluckiest cricketers for India. He made his Test debut in 2011, and took 27 wickets in 6 matches. A number of injuries- including a rib fracture- shortened his career before his last appearance in March 2012.
