01. Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli is one of the most sucessfull Test captain in England, as he has three wins under his name. India won their first match under Kohli in Nottingham during the 2018-2019 series. In the 2021 Test series, Virat Kohli’s Indian side emerged victorious in two of the five matches.

The series began with a draw, followed by a memorable 151-run win for India at Lord’s in the second Test. England bounced back strongly, securing an innings-and-76-run victory in the third match. India regained the lead with a 157-run triumph at The Oval in the fourth Test. However, the series concluded in a 2-2 draw after England won the rescheduled fifth Test by seven wickets.

02. Kapil Dev

Kapil Dev and Virat Kohli remain the only Indian captains to have won multiple Test matches in England. In 1986, Kapil led India to a historic 2-0 series victory on English soil. The team clinched the opening Test at Lord’s with a five-wicket win, followed by another triumph in the second Test at Leeds to secure the series. The final match in Birmingham ended in a draw, sealing India’s dominance under Kapil’s leadership.

03. Rahul Dravid

Rahul Dravid secured his first Test victory in England as captain during the 2007 series, where India emerged with a 1-0 win. The highlight came in the second Test at Nottingham, where India defeated England by seven wickets. The opening Test at Lord’s ended in a draw, helping set the tone for India’s series triumph.

04. MS Dhoni

In 2014, MS Dhoni led India to a memorable victory at Lord’s, where they defeated England by 95 runs in the second Test. Despite the historic win, it remained India’s only triumph on that tour, with the series ending 3-1 in England’s favor. Dhoni joined an elite group of Indian captains alongside Kapil Dev and Virat Kohli to have secured a Test win at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground.

05. Sourav Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly won his first Test match on English soil as a captain in 2002, and India beat England by an innings and 46 runs at leeds. The four matches series ended in 1-1 draw.
