‘Want to win away in India’: Nathan Lyon’s one final wish before retirement from Test cricket
Australian star spinner Nathan Lyon has stated that even though he has no plan to retire from Test cricket as of now, he still wishes to win an away series in India.
Australian great spinner Nathan Lyon has confirmed that he has no plan to retire from Test cricket, but has shared his wish to win one away series in India before he calls his time from his career.
Nathan Lyon is the most successful off-spinner for Australia- with 556 wickets to his name in 138 Test matches, and has taken 130 scalps against India in 32 red-ball matches. However, he has never been the part of team in their away series win in India.
"I've always said I want to win away in India. I want to win away in England. We've got that opportunity in a couple of years' time, but we've also got to take it Test by Test and make sure that we're doing everything here in West Indies right,” Lyon was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.
Nathan Lyon stated that he has called his time on his duty in the team as their song-master, and will be passing the charge to wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey. For those unversed- the song, "Underneath the Southern ross" is sung after each victory, led by the song master.
"I've been very honoured to firstly, lead the song, but to have it for 12 years, it's been one of the biggest highlights of my career," Lyon said.
"I ran my race with it, and it's time for someone else to put their touch on it. I've loved having the privilege to lead the team song but now I can sit back and hopefully enjoy a few wins and just relax and take it all in," he said.
