‘Woh phone uthaye hain na?’: Former Indian cricketer reacted to the rumors of the BCCI might ask MS Dhoni for Indian team mentor

Ex Indian player Manoj Tiwari has reacted to rumors that the BCCI might ask MS Dhoni for the responsibility of the mentor for the Indian team.

There are rumours that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) might ask the star former Indian legendary player MS Dhoni to take up the major and important responsibility for the Indian team ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026. However, Dhoni has already worked as a mentor once before, during the 2021 T20 World Cup.

At the age of 44, MS Dhoni continues to play in the IPL for Chennai Super Kings. His former team teammate Manoj Tiwary feels that Dhoni may not even respond to such an offer.

Only time shall tell. He has been given the offer. Woh phone uthaye hain na? (Has he picked up the phon?) Because it is difficult to reach him on the phone,” “Replies to messages from him are also very rare; many players have said this. Will he read the message or not? We don’t know,” Tiwary added.

MS Dhoni usually stays away from the spotlight except during the IPL, so fans rarely see him during the year. Manoj Tiwari feels that even if Dhoni has been given the mentorship offer, he might not accept it. However, Tiwari also believes that presence of Dhoni will play an important role for the Indian team.

The first thing is whether he will accept the role or not. It’s very difficult for me to predict what impact he will have. His experience as a captain and as a player will be very useful, as the new players emerging today and upcoming stars of the Indian team give him a lot of respect,” Tiwary said.

Manoj Tiwari also shared his views on MS Dhoni and the head coach of Indian team Gautam Gambhir working together, and speculated on how that dynamic may shape up. “The pairing of MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir will also be worth watching,” Tiwary said.
