Following spectacular performances by Rohit and Kohli in the ODI against Australia in Sydney, Sunil Gavaskar shared his views on the pair playing in 2027 World Cup.
Sunil Gavaskar mentioned that the moment both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli agreed to participate in the recently-concluded Australia ODI series, they had made it clear that their main aim was on the 2027 ODI World Cup. Gavaskar believes that the participation was a statement to stay in the One-Day setup.
“The moment they made themselves available for this trip, it was clear they want to be there for the 2027 World Cup. And irrespective of what happens between now and then — whether they score runs or not — with the ability and experience they possess, if they’re available, they’ll be certainties in the squad. With this kind of form, you can write their names straight into the World Cup squad for South Africa 2027,” Gavaskar told SportsToday.
Since the Australia ODI series has ended and Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli hare only active in the One-Day format, they will now only be seen when India will play in the upcoming three-match home series against South Africa- beginning November 30.
