Yashasvi Jaiswal close to create HISTORY: Will aim to break 49-year-old record in 2nd Test against England
As India and England will face in the 2nd Test of the five-match series, Yashasvi Jaiswal will have a chance to break an almost 50-year-old record in Test cricket.
Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is close to creating history and break a 49-year-old record- as he might become the fastest Indian batter to score 2000 runs in Test cricket. Jaiswal was seen in good rhythm with the bat, as he scored a spectacular century against England in Leeds. Now he will aim to keep his form going in the 2nd Test- set to begin 2nd July in Edgbaston.
As of now, Yashasvi Jaiswal has played 20 Test matches and has 1,903 runs to his name with an average of 52.86. He is just 97 runs away from breaking the almost 50-year-old record by batting legend Sunil Gavaskar.
Sunil Gavaskar was the first cricketer to score 10,000 runs in the longest format of the game, and had reached 2,000 runs in his 23rd red-ball match- which was in 1976. Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag follow right behind, as they reached the milestone in their 25th Test match.
In terms of innings played, Rahul Dravid jointly holds the top spot with Virender Sehwag. Dravid reached the milestone in the 40th innings in 1999, along with Sehwag doing so in the year 2004.
If Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has played 38 innings so far, manages to score more than 97 runs in the first innings of the Edgbaston Test, he will break the record for this feat- both in terms of matches and in terms of innings played.
