Aaron Finch Biography

A T20 specialist who has played First-Class cricket for Victoria, Surrey and even Yorkshire (during Jason Gillespie’s tenure), Finch has remained a key member of Australia’s limited-overs side over the past few years. However, Finch has never been considered as a strong contender for red-ball cricket.

Finch is one of the most in-demand players in several T20 leagues around the globe. A former captain of the Australian side in the shortest format of the game, Finch also holds the world record of highest individual score in T20 Internationals: 156 off a mere 63 balls, studded with a mind boggling 14 sixes and 11 boundaries against England at Southampton.

He is also the quickest Australian to reach the 1,000-run mark in T20 internationals, reaching there in 29 innings.

Finch is a power-hitter, and captaincy stints with teams such as Melbourne Renegades, Pune Warriors India and even Australia A played a role in his ascension to the leadership of the Australian side in September 2014.

However, keeping the idea of a unified captain across formats, Finch had to make way for Steven Smith as Australia’s T20I captain at a time when the former himself was ranked as the No. 1 batsman in the format, in January 2016.

In the 2015 World Cup, it was Finch’s century in the opening game for Australia against England that set the tone for the home side. Finch has been acquired by (but not necessarily played for) six IPL sides: Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Daredevils, Pune Warriors India, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Lions.
