Abhimanyu Mithun has all the ingredients to become a great fast bowler: he is tall, athletic, fit, and dedicated. After focusing on athletics in his early teens, he started taking cricket seriously from the age of 17. So rapid was his rise that by 20 he made his Ranji Trophy debut. He not only ended up as the leading wicket-taker in his maiden season in 2009-10 with 52 scalps, but also took Karnataka to their first final in 10 years, only to lose to Mumbai by an agonising 6-run margin.
He was given his maiden international call-up immediately and made his ODI debut against South Africa in Ahmedabad. He went on to make his Test debut five months later against Sri Lanka at Galle and came away with four wickets in the first innings, including that of Mahela Jayawardene. Unfortunately he has been more out of than in the Indian team ever since, often called in as replacement for an injured player. Mithun continued his good run of form as he picked up 41 and 39 wickets for Karnataka in the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons as his side lifted consecutive Ranji Trophy titles.
Mithun played for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL, where he tasted very little success before moving to Mumbai Indians in 2015, and later Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016, but IPL success has evaded him.
In 2015, Mithun got engaged to Rayana, daughter of famous Tamil actress, Raadhika Sarathkumar.
